Lab news
Research updates, community highlights, and the path toward a new lab.
2027-07
The Ding Lab will open on July 1, 2027 in the Department of Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina. We welcome inquiries about opportunities in the new lab.
2026-08
We report that Paralemmin2 is a shared, alternatively spliced regulator of axon initial segments and paranodal junctions in oligodendrocytes — one of the first new oligodendroglial paranodal proteins identified in nearly two decades.
2026
Xiaoyun received an NIH/NEI Pathway to Independence Award (1K99EY037780) for “Mechanisms of axoglial interactions at the paranodal junction,” supporting the transition to independent research (2026–2031).
2026
Collaborative work defining the early response of oligodendrocyte-lineage cells to traumatic CNS axonal injury is now published in the Journal of Neuroscience.
2025
Xiaoyun was selected as a 2025 Leading Edge Fellow, joining a national community of outstanding women and nonbinary postdocs in the biomedical sciences.
2025
Awarded a National Multiple Sclerosis Society Career Transition Fellowship (TA-2403-42997) for work on oligodendroglial contributions to axoglial interactions during myelin development and repair. The award was relinquished upon activation of the K99.
2025-10
Our OASIS preprint describes in vivo AAV-mediated transduction and genome editing of adult oligodendrocytes — a platform for cell-type-specific functional studies in the adult CNS.
2024-12
Age-dependent regulation of axoglial interactions and behavior by oligodendrocyte AnkyrinG (Nature Communications) was highlighted by Nature Aging.
